Travelling School of Pathology

Travelling School of Pathology

This is a project under the aegis of National Cancer Grid. The project involves establishment of a Travelling School of Onco-pathology that helps train surgeons and pathologists to adopt uniform practices during onco-surgery and gross examination of tumour bearing resections respectively.

Introducing a mobile school of resource persons helps address these challenges faced by professionals in remote areas. This enhances compliance by offering convenience to participants, allowing them to learn under one roof. Additionally, it is more cost-effective than a centralized training program model.

Opportunities for the Travelling School

  1. Improving quality of pathology reporting of cancer bearing specimens thereby impacting cancer management.
  2. Improving quality of Onco-surgery by using standardised surgical pathology report as a quality tool.
  3. Establishing contact with remote regions of Northeast would reduce their professional isolation.
  4. Capacity building of cancer centres in remote areas.

Aims and Objectives

  1. To standardise quality of Onco-pathology by encouraging pathologists to conduct gross examination of surgical specimens appropriately and use uniform reporting formats.
  2. To standardise surgical procedures for common cancers using Surgical pathology report as the quality control tool.

Workshop Outline

Common cancers viz. oral cavity, neck, larynx, hypopharynx, breast, stomach, colorectum are covered by faculty comprising of pathologists and surgeons. Each workshop is held in three sessions - morning, afternoon and evening.
