About the Programme
The NCG Leadership Development Programme is a transformative leadership development journey for healthcare professionals across the National Cancer Grid who are committed to driving meaningful change in cancer care and healthcare delivery.
Designed for clinicians, nurses, administrators, researchers, scientists and other healthcare professionals, the programme aims to strengthen leadership capability across the NCG by equipping participants with the knowledge, skills and confidence to lead teams, improve services, influence systems and drive organisational change.
The programme offers a structured, step-by-step approach to leadership development, aligned to participants’ roles, career progression and personal development goals. It includes three units of study leading to a Postgraduate Certificate, with an optional additional unit for those who wish to complete a Postgraduate Diploma.
Vision
Cancer care is delivered within increasingly complex healthcare systems that demand strong, adaptive and collaborative leadership. Technical expertise alone is not enough. Today’s leaders must be able to work across disciplines, navigate uncertainty, engage teams, influence change and improve the systems in which care is delivered.
The NCG Leadership Programme has been designed to bridge the gap between professional expertise and leadership practice. Through a combination of self-reflection, experiential learning, coaching, mentorship, peer learning and practical application, the programme supports participants to become more effective leaders within their own institutions and across the wider cancer care ecosystem.
Programme Objectives
The NCG Leadership Development Programme aims to develop healthcare leaders who can inspire teams, lead organisational transformation and advance excellence in cancer care. By combining leadership development with mentorship, peer learning and practical application, the programme supports participants to broaden their perspectives, strengthen their influence and create meaningful impact within their institutions and across the National Cancer Grid.
The programme objectives are to:
- Develop a deeper understanding of leadership and management in cancer care
- Strengthen participants’ ability to address complex challenges in a systematic and creative way
- Build leadership capability that contributes to individual growth as well as the wider development of the National Cancer Grid
- Support participants to translate learning into meaningful improvements in practice, services and systems.
Who Should Apply?
The programme is intended primarily for mid-career professionals, working in a NCG member institute, typically 5–15 years into their careers, who are ready to take on greater leadership responsibilities within their institutions or across the wider healthcare system.

Programme Structure
The NCG LDP is designed as a 12-month development journey combining structured learning with practical application. It begins with an orientation webinar and leadership profiling exercises, followed by a series of interactive learning activities that support participants to apply leadership concepts in real-world settings.
The programme includes:
- Orientation and onboarding
- Leadership profiling and self-reflection
- Interactive webinars and virtual learning sessions
- Action-learning sets and peer learning
- Coaching and mentorship
- In-person workshops
- Work-based leadership projects
- Final presentations and reflection sessions
Programme Delivery
The programme follows a blended learning format, combining virtual monthly sessions with in-person workshops.
Learning will be delivered through:
- Live online lectures and facilitated discussions
- Experiential learning activities
- Action-learning projects
- Coaching and mentorship
- Peer learning and collaborative reflection
- In-person workshops
This flexible structure has been designed to accommodate the professional commitments of healthcare professionals while ensuring sustained engagement throughout the programme.
Participants should expect to commit approximately 6–8 hours per month, including two virtual sessions of 1–2 hours each. There will also be 2-3 mandatory in-person meetings lasting 2-3 days each, over the course of the programme. Dates for in-person sessions will be shared well in advance.

Applications will be invited through an open call circulated to all NCG member centres and announced on the NCG website.

Applications will be reviewed by the steering committee. Shortlisted candidates will be invited for a virtual interview, after which the final cohort will be selected.

The NCG LDP is supported by an experienced faculty of healthcare leaders, educators, coaches and subject matter experts with backgrounds in leadership development, healthcare management, oncology, clinical research and organisational transformation.
Participants will benefit from practical insights, new perspectives and expert guidance to strengthen their leadership skills and create meaningful impact within their institutions and the broader healthcare ecosystem.
This programme has been curated for healthcare professionals from NCG member centres. NCG will cover all programme-related expenses, including travel and accommodation for in-person workshops.
There is no participation fee for selected candidates.
